Alpha Tester Terms of Use
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Brent Shemet ("we", "us"), who runs BDS Finance. BDS Finance is a personal bookkeeping tool for tracking accounts, transactions, budgets and net worth, on a cash or accrual basis.
The app is in an invite-only alpha: an early test with a small group of people. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Statement. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
2. Your account
- Invitation only. You can use the app only with an account we have set up for you. You must be at least 18.
- One person per account. Don't share your account or let anyone else use it.
- Keep it secure. Use a strong password (at least 12 characters) and keep two-step sign-in turned on; it is required for every account. Tell us right away at brentshemet@gmail.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.
3. Not professional advice
BDS Finance is a record-keeping tool. Nothing in it is financial, investment, tax, legal or accounting advice. Reports and balances are only as accurate as the information entered or imported. You are responsible for your own financial decisions and for checking anything important with a qualified professional.
4. This is an alpha
- The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows.
- Features may change, break or be removed, and the app may be unavailable at times. We may end the alpha at any time.
- Keep your own records. Don't rely on the app as your only copy of important financial information. Use the backup download in Settings to save a copy of your data.
- The alpha is free. We may introduce paid plans later, but never without telling you first and asking you to agree.
5. Using the app fairly
You agree not to:
- try to access anyone else's data or account, or get around the app's security;
- probe, scan or load-test the app, or interfere with how it runs;
- copy, resell or build a competing product from the app; or
- use it for anything unlawful.
If you find a bug or a possible security problem, please report it to brentshemet@gmail.com rather than testing it further. If you ever see data that isn't yours, stop and report it immediately.
6. Your data
- You own your data. We use it only to run the app for you, as described in the Privacy Statement. We never sell it or use it for advertising.
- You can download a copy at any time from Settings, and delete your financial data yourself from Settings.
- To close your account entirely, email us; we will delete your sign-in and any remaining data within 7 days. Copies in encrypted nightly backups expire within 30 days.
7. Bank connections
Connecting a bank is optional. Connections are made through Plaid, and Plaid's own terms and privacy policy apply to them. The app gets read-only access to account names, masked numbers, balances and transactions; it cannot move money. You can disconnect a bank in the app at any time. We are not responsible for errors or outages at Plaid or your bank.
8. Feedback
We welcome ideas and bug reports. If you send feedback, you agree we may use it to improve the app without owing you anything for it. We won't share your name with your feedback publicly without asking you.
9. Limits on our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or decisions made using the app. Because the alpha is free, our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to US $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
10. Ending, changes and contact
- Ending access. You can stop using the app and ask us to close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or if the alpha ends; where we can, we will give you notice and a chance to download your data first.
- Changes. We may update these terms as the app develops. We will tell you about important changes in the app or by email before they take effect, and the app will ask you to agree to the new version.
- Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and disputes go to the courts of Los Angeles County, California.
- Contact. Questions about these terms: brentshemet@gmail.com.
